GDC No. 46432
Maurice qualified as a dental surgeon at the University of Liverpool in 1972. This led to him entering general practice as an associate in Southport in January 1973 and subsequently moving to Leeds in 1975. He became principal of his own practice in Morley in 1976. The practice grew to such an extent that it moved to a purpose built five surgery facility in 1983. In 1994 he stared reducing his NHS work, becoming an exclusively private practitioner in 1997, when he took over a private practice on The Headrow in Leeds city centre. Alongside his general practice, he worked as an oral surgeon at Harrogate District Hospital for many years, where he gained wide experience in this field, as well as seeding his interest in implant dentistry, which was developed later.
Maurice's appetite to extend his knowledge and skills further, in 1985 led to him developing a special interest in endodontics. Over the next few years an increasing amount of his professional time became devoted to endodontics. He attended just about every endodontic course available, starting with postgraduate courses at the esteemed Eastman Dental School. In 1998 he was among the first clinicians in the Leeds area to use a dedicated operating microscope for endodontics. It was from this time that he started to take a significant number of referrals from colleagues. He has been an active member of the British Endodontic Society since 1985, hardly ever missing any of its conferences.
He continues to keep abreast with the latest developments in both the endodontic and implant fields by attending many conferences at home and abroad each year. He is comfortable handling both easy and complicated treatments, including retreatments and surgical endodontics when this proves necessary. He will also attempt the removal of separated files and fractured posts when appropriate. He continues to be visiting endodontist to several practices, including as far afield as Manchester and the Wirral. He is very happy to help any colleagues with their endodontic problems, whether it be just for advice or a full re-treatment.
Outside clinical practice Maurice has three adult children. He relaxes with music and opera- his younger daughter being an opera singer. He has a passion for aviation and light aircraft, having held a pilot's license for the last forty-two years.
